DZI19-42-Case-3
64 year old man with blurry vision, diplopia, and a mass involving the right ethmoid sinus
Adenoid cystic carcinoma
  • Malignant salivary gland tumor with myoepithelial and ductal differentiation.
  • Primarily affects adults
  • Histological patterns: tubular, cribriform, solid
  • Hyalinized/myxoid/mucoid filled spaces
  • Perineural invasion is almost universal (pain, facial palsy...)
  • Characteristic molecular: t(6;9) MYB-NFIB
  • MYB IHC can be useful but is not 100% specific
