Extensive lymphatic invasion is present adjacent to the primary tumor mass and in the periphery of the tissue. Tumor appears to have about 10% per volume amyloid deposition. No extrathyroidal extension is noted.
Metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma is present replacing a 1.0 cm lymph node with no overt extranodal extension.

Clinical history
78 year old man diagnosed with medullary thyroid carcinoma in 2016 following > 1 year of diarrhea. Sporadic RET M918T.
Diagnosis
Medullary thyroid carcinoma (4.3 cm, by report; pT3a). Extensive lymphatic invasion is present adjacent to the primary tumor mass and in the periphery of the tissue. Tumor appears to have about 10% per volume amyloid deposition. No extrathyroidal extension is noted. Metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma is present replacing a 1.0 cm lymph node with no overt extranodal extension.
