Placental pathology is an often overlooked but clinically importabt area of surgical pathology. It is heavily clinically based with diagnoses relevant to the delivery providers, neonatologists, and pediatricians. These are examples of major categories of diagnoses in placental pathology that have some clinical relevance, although rarely requiring immediate clinical intervention. There are several new textbooks out on placental pathology that I urge interested pathologists to use.
